Staying near Namba station makes getting around Osaka easy. Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi are walkable, and the area around the station has plenty of shopping streets, restaurants and entertainment. Staff are polite and helpful, though English may be limited, so a translator app can come in handy. The station is large, clean and well run. All the lines and exits can be overwhelming at first, but the signs help once you get used to it. Even at busy times things run smoothly. It’s well connected to places like Kyoto and Nara, and onward connections for the Shinkansen are available. Direct trains from Kansai International Airport make arriving and leaving with luggage especially convenient.

The train from the airport goes straight to Namba and takes about 45 minutes. The station is well placed for changing to other parts of Osaka, with lots of malls around it.

Around 11am to noon on May 16, 2026, my sister and I arrived at our Airbnb from Kansai airport on the nankai rapid train, and realized my black shoulder bag with my wallet was missing. It had been less than an hour since I lost it, so we rushed back to the station. Somehow, they’d found the bag with all its contents in just 10 minutes after we arrived. Many thanks to the staff member on duty that day. I really appreciate the help.

Give yourself plenty of extra time if you’re taking the express train to the airport or going elsewhere. The station is huge, and I got lost and nearly missed my planned express train to KIX airport. There are convenience stores and food shops just outside the turnstiles where you can grab something for the journey. I was trying to buy tickets at a machine when the ticket agent right beside me kept giving me nasty side-eye, even though it was clear I wasn’t sure how it worked. I asked for help and got terrible service. If you can, I’d buy tickets somewhere else unless you’re okay dealing with rude customer service agents.
