The older staff were quite friendly, and the price is very cheap, so you get what you pay for. It didn’t seem like much maintenance or upkeep was happening. Check-in was at 4pm and they wouldn’t negotiate on that.

The owners are great, and it works well if all you need is a bed and a bath. It was a little filthy, but that didn’t bother me since the mess was only outside the room.

I went with Akasaka Ryokan because it fit my budget, and the location seems pretty strategic. From Shin Imamiya and Dobutsuen Mae, I can get on the Osaka Loop Line or Osaka Metro. There’s a coin laundry and sento across from the hotel, plus a Lawson on the corner. Showers and baths are shared.

The maintenance is average. For what I paid, it’s good value, though you can’t expect more at that price.

I’d booked ahead, but couldn’t get into the room because reception had closed at 9pm.
