The room was roomy enough for our family of three, with useful amenities including a kitchenette, a washer with a dryer function, and plenty of charging points. We didn’t need to pack as many clothes as we would for a regular hotel. The minimalist place handles everything online, which took a little getting used to, but almost everything else worked fine. The main drawback was the location. It’s at least a kilometer on foot to the nearest MRT station or the closest tourist spots, and that walk each day got tiring. The lobby had air conditioning and a pleasant scent from a reed diffuser, but no couches or seats, which would have made waiting more comfortable.

Think carefully before booking, especially if you’re over 30, traveling with children, or care a lot about comfort and quality. I wish I’d listened to the warnings. Dotonbori may seem like a selling point, but I found the area chaotic and seedy, better for a visit than a place to stay. The street and entrance were unpleasant, and the rubbish storage right outside gave off a persistent garbage smell as soon as we arrived. The room is assigned after 1 p.m., and you use a code to enter the lobby. There isn’t really a lobby for waiting: no seating or couch like the photos show. The bags left there were unsecured and out in the open, with the hope they’d still be there when you returned. The room was shockingly small, even by Japanese standards. Calling it good value would ignore what better accommodation looks like. Supplies were rationed to three plates, mugs, and forks for three guests. I asked for an iron and learned they’re shared between apartments, so you have to wait for another guest to return one. For a paid hotel, that’s inexcusable. The toilet cubicle was claustrophobic. I’m not tall or large, but still struggled to move comfortably, and I can’t imagine how someone bigger would manage. Staff communication was poor and impersonal. Issues went unresolved, and the replies felt copied and pasted. I saved every message in case they dispute that. Our room on the 12th floor also had a connecting metal door to another guest’s room, right beside the TV. It looked more like a fire exit than part of a hotel room, and sound from next door came straight through it, repeatedly waking us. We had no privacy. There were countless little details in the room that felt bare-bones. When I asked to move to another property, they offered to refund the remaining nights. I only stayed because their other listings were overpriced too. Osaka has much better options. This property left me disappointed and regretful.

The quieter neighborhood was a big plus for us after busy days in the crowds around Dotonburi. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the station and 10-15 minutes to Dotonburi, with Family Mart nearby in either direction. Temples are farther away, but we were fine taking taxis. Check-in was easy, and we got in around 1 because the room was ready. The apartment was just the right size for my boyfriend and me. Smaller than a typical US place, as expected, but there was room for our two big suitcases and backpacks if we kept things tidy. We even used the third bed for sleeping in our outside clothes when we felt lazy. It had everything in the photos, though we didn’t use the kitchen since we were usually out eating. A few small annoyances: the Wi-Fi was slow and choppy, there was nowhere to hang coats or bathroom towels, and the toilet water smelled a bit odd. I also got bitten on the foot by a spider or something. The connecting room hadn’t been mentioned, which made me uneasy. Our neighbors were quiet, though we could hear someone coughing in the morning. Still, the downsides were manageable for a place we mostly used to sleep for about eight hours. I’d stay again.

The room was very quiet, and Dotonbori’s shops were only a short walk away. I had a really good stay. The free umbrellas for rainy days came in handy. I only wish they kept luggage in a locked area, since mine was left out in the open at reception.

We stayed eight nights and found the apartment roomier than other places we’ve stayed in Japan. It worked well as a base, and we enjoyed how quiet and safe the area felt. The shower pressure was excellent. The bathroom had a heated drying function with a timer, and there was a heated toilet seat. We also had a balcony, a good heating system, a properly sized fridge and freezer, and plenty of tissues. The place was generally well stocked, with a gas cooktop, mugs, and a few utensils, though it’s not set up for ambitious cooking. Everything we needed was there, while still feeling different from home. You’ll need to upload passport details before arriving so they can send the entry code. For luggage storage, there’s no staff, so bags are left in the foyer, which seemed safe and organized to us. If you’re staying longer, you may want to pay for a mid-stay clean to get fresh towels and have the bins changed.
