Daiwa Royal Hotel D-CITY Osaka Shin Umeda

My 26-inch suitcase couldn’t be opened all the way because the room was smaller than it looked in the photos. The bigger issue came at checkout. I’d planned my day expecting to leave my luggage there, since the hotel said it could be stored after checkout. I checked out at 11 a.m. and found a sign saying the area was full and bags couldn’t be accepted. I didn’t ask, since the sign made the situation clear, and I could pay for storage elsewhere. Still, if the hotel says it can provide this service, it should make an effort to honor that promise. If space is a limitation, it shouldn’t promise luggage storage.

Nice neighborhood and good rooms, with an okay breakfast. The food was kind of funny for tourists, but nice. It’s very close to Osaka station, so it’s handy for getting around. I recommend it.

It’s not in a lively area, but Osaka station and the Umeda shopping district are about a 10-minute walk away. Getting to Kansai Airport was easy too. I was surprised by how many amenities the hotel had, and it’s well equipped. There’s a coin washer and dryer, which would’ve been a big plus, though I didn’t use them. I’d book here again if I visit Osaka.

I won’t stay here again. The staff were dismissive and unhelpful when a luggage storage arrangement they’d confirmed fell through. Before my stay ended, I specifically asked if I could leave my bags for one night after checkout. I was told they could keep them if there was space. But when I checked out that morning and asked them to hold just two bags, they refused because I didn’t have another booking. When I pointed out what I’d been told, they said their staff must have misunderstood and asked if I’d actually specified one night. They didn’t take responsibility or offer any help, not even checking whether Osaka Station had luggage storage. They just told me to Google it. I’ve never dealt with a hotel so irresponsible and disrespectful toward guests. There are plenty of nearby hotels with much better service and attitudes.
