Holiday Inn Express Osaka City Centre - Midosuji

We were a group of six, including one elderly person who couldn’t walk much, and stayed two nights in June 2026. We booked two connecting “4 Single Premium High Floor” rooms and one “1 Queen City View High Floor” room. Having the connecting rooms made it possible to look after our elderly guest overnight. The office district around the hotel was surprisingly quiet throughout our stay. Our morning flight got us in early, and we wanted to leave our bags and explore Osaka. The front desk was helpful and told us that one of the three rooms was ready, so we could use that one first. The rooms felt cramped once we unpacked, but were comfortable overall, with a lovely north-facing city view. The furnishings were new and the rooms were clean, though one bedsheet had a stain. The front desk changed it promptly after we reported it. We also enjoyed having Nespresso machines in the connecting rooms. Breakfast was free, with a limited selection that varied a little between the two mornings. The friendly staff arranged for all six of us to sit together each day. They also helped with arranging luggage delivery through a third-party company. As an IHG member, which is free to join, I booked at a discounted rate through the hotel’s official website. Getting around was easy. The hotel is a short walk from several stairs-only exits at Osaka Metro’s “Midosuji Line” Hommachi Station, where three lines connect. For a lift or escalator, useful with luggage, a wheelchair, or a pram, cross the road north of the hotel and enter the nearby Semba Center building. The main drawback was arriving by car. There’s no drop-off porch, planter boxes line the road in front, and there’s no shelter between the road and the entrance. That was inconvenient in the rain. I’d happily return with a group of adults, though, rather than elderly guests.

From the 13th floor, I had a beautiful view across the city, especially at night. The hotel felt modern, comfortable, and well cared for, and my room was extremely clean. Housekeeping did a great job every day. Breakfast was fresh and tasty each morning, with a good range of choices. The staff were friendly and helpful, and checking in and out was smooth. The location made it easy to get around by subway or on foot, with stations and many popular Osaka places close by. I had a really great stay and would definitely come back. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, modern hotel in a convenient spot.

The room was roomy by Japanese standards, with enough space for two open suitcases. It had adjustable air conditioning, a Chromecast for casting videos from a phone, and a rain shower with all the shower amenities provided. The hotel is new and near the subway, convenience stores, Dotonbori, and Shinsaibashi. In December, the street outside is beautifully lit up. Staff were service-minded and communicated well in English. There are vending machines, laundry machines, a smoking area, and free water dispensers on every floor. I was very satisfied and would highly recommend it.

We chose this hotel because of the breakfast reviews, but I can’t recommend staying here. Breakfast was poor quality, with very few choices. The rooms were as small as expected, and $370 for two nights felt far too expensive. The location was perhaps okay, though there are lesser-known three-star hotels behind the shrine with a livelier feel for half the price. It has an iconic American name, but that’s about all. I don’t think this hotel can call itself four stars.
