Hotel Abitare Namba West

The projector and bean bag chairs were a hit with my 3-year-old daughter, though I wasn't keen on them. Everything was clean and nicely finished. We were on a subway line and right by a 7-Eleven, although not on a JR line. There are only six or maybe seven units per floor, all close to the single elevator, which was fast. The kitchen worked great, and the dining table was just the right size for breakfast before heading out around Osaka. The unit had a washer, and the bathroom had a dryer feature for hanging clothes to dry quickly. I wish there were more towel hooks, so I brought my own suction hooks, a useful travel tip. There were no washcloths or hand towels for wiping the table, but in Japan I usually buy some since there are so many cute ones. There's no maid service, but for our four-night stay it was fine. You just take out the trash and wash your own towels. I'd stay here again if I visit Osaka.

The room was fairly spacious, with separate toilet and laundry areas. It had a kitchen stove and microwave, and the AC and heater could be adjusted individually when the temperature dropped at night. It felt like a simple studio apartment, with no room cleaning, and we had to dispose of our rubbish at checkout. The street was also pretty quiet. But walking back after a long day around Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi was a pain. The hotel is about 1 km away, which felt too far for us and made the location inconvenient, especially if you plan to walk. This was our first stay after reading all the good reviews. We won't be coming back, since the walk back was too much for us.

We stayed four nights at Hotel Abitare Namba West and used the apartment as our base for exploring Osaka. It was quiet around the neighborhood while still feeling central, and the kitchen and washing machine suited our family perfectly. Sakuragawa Station was just a one- to two-minute walk away, and Dotonbori's neon district was a comfortable 10-15 minute stroll. The room was nice, and the stay was decent overall. The self check-in setup is interesting, though it could use some work. I had trouble hearing the video clerk clearly, and not having anyone on site was frustrating at times.
