Hotel Hanshin Osaka

My stay at Hotel Hanshin Osaka was fantastic, and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Osaka. I hope to come back. I was there alone in a Moderate Double Room from 2 April to 6 April 2026, and it felt very spacious. I never heard noise from other rooms, and housekeeping did a great job. I drink a lot of water, so I appreciated getting two bottles whenever I chose eco-cleaning or full cleaning. The hotel is opposite Fukushima station, which made it convenient to return after long days. A letter had arrived a few days before I checked in; staff kept it for me and handed it over without me having to ask. Special thanks to Murakami, who confirmed by email that they would safekeep it.

Recent reviews of Hotel Hanshin brought back a distressing memory from when the hotel first opened. I was working in Osaka then, and my company had booked a room for a family friend, a retired university professor from Norway. Despite the reservation, he was turned away when he arrived. He was exhausted after a long flight and was making his first trip to Japan, but staff wouldn’t let him use a phone to call my office for help. He had to find his own way across the street to the JR station in sweltering, humid summer weather, then wait outside until I could leave work in the middle of the day to help him. I eventually found him a room at the Hotel Granvia, an excellent hotel where I’ve stayed many times since. The lack of basic empathy toward a vulnerable guest left a lasting mark, whatever the reason for the refusal. I realize the staff may have changed completely since then, but seeing complaints still appear after all these years suggests a deep-rooted company culture problem. With so many good hotel choices in Osaka, why risk this kind of treatment? Better safe than sorry. Rather than rebut guests’ sincere complaints, Hotel Hanshin should consider why people feel this way and how to improve.

Having spring water in the washroom meant I didn’t need to go to the public onsen, which I loved. I do wish there were coin-operated washers, though. No big deal, since there’s a laundromat around the corner from the station.

The staff misplaced some of my belongings without telling me, and I only realized at the airport that they hadn’t returned them. They included my hot flask and a few other things. The service was very irresponsible, and staff weren’t helpful at all. We asked for hot water, which they could have provided, but got a big cross-hand gesture instead. When we asked where we could eat our food, whether in one of the restaurants or another indoor area, they immediately said we couldn’t eat there. They had also closed the waiting area for no reason. Even though the lobby is meant for guests staying at the property, they wouldn’t let us wait there. Very weird and stupid staff.
