Hotel Hillarys

After a long day out, it was comfortable to come back to a place that felt well managed. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and getting around the city was easy from this convenient location. I stayed two nights and had a pleasant visit, with no unnecessary complications.

A nice hotel in a good spot for exploring Osaka. The smoking room suited our needs, and while the bathroom was on the small side, that’s standard in Japan. The washer and dryer came in handy.

The staff were amazingly helpful and spoke good English. There are loads of food and shopping options right nearby, including a 7 ELEVEn literally on the doorstep, and the location makes Dotonbori and the main Nipponbashi train and subway stations convenient to reach. They also have coin operated laundry, Japanese comic books, and complimentary lobby drinks. The rooms and bathroom were quite small, though, and the AC wasn't working.

I ended up leaving and paying for another hotel myself. Since I had found another solution and the issue was resolved, I felt they should have offered a refund if they cared about their guests. Instead I came away feeling scammed, and they damaged their own reputation. They also charged an alleged 800 yen “tax” that the booking site had never mentioned. I think charges like that should be stated upfront, and here it felt like a scam. As a business owner, I find this way of treating customers shameful, and I strongly advise people to stay elsewhere. You deserve better for your money and peace of mind. The smell hit me right at the entrance and was unbearable. It made me nauseous and nearly made me vomit. It gave me the impression that proper cleaning was never done and the place was completely neglected. I have never had such a disastrous hotel experience, and honestly think it should be shut down. The staff made things worse. One receptionist was especially rude and stared at me as if I were in prison. At €200 a night, the service was miserable. They should go back to hospitality school and learn basic respect and customer service.
