Ja Namba South Hotel

The price was low, and getting to the subway and airport was easy, but I’m not sure the tradeoff was worth it. There was barely room to move or put luggage down. The bathroom was probably the most uncomfortable one I’ve used in Japan. I’m not tall, yet I could hardly sit on the toilet. The AC filter had fur growing on it, so it clearly hadn’t been cleaned in ages.

The place itself was fine for what I paid, and everything is self-service with no staff around. The problem was getting into the room. I booked through Agoda, but neither Agoda nor the hotel sent the room key box password before I arrived. Since I got there after operating hours, I couldn't check in until the next morning, after contacting customer service for the code. They treated it as a no-show, so I got no refund.

The location is fantastic, right by the train station with loads of restaurants nearby. The room was small, especially the bathroom, and cleanliness needs work. There was pink mould in the bath corner and on the shower curtain, plus dust all over the windowsill. We stayed three nights. The room wasn't cleaned on the first two days. When we came back, the bed had been made, but the rubbish was still there and the body wash hadn't been topped up.

Things were good in general, though I wish they'd supplied water bottles and a nightdress.
