Tommy, the manager, has stories about giving free hugs all over America, so ask him if you meet him. He set up a hostel above the coffee and bar to meet interesting people from around the world. The place has a fun, hip, bohemian feel and is still affordable. As a foreigner traveling through Osaka, it was easy to drop in thanks to the casual, open-minded crowd. A local artist once came in for toast and ended up playing a couple of guitar songs. On other visits, they’ve had 90s American music at a comfortable volume, easy to talk or work over. There are cozy leather chairs by the bar, warm lighting and some natural light, too. The hand-poured coffee is fantastic. They’ve got Japanese board games and a few in English, plus outlets where you can charge a phone or laptop. It feels like a little hub for local artists.
