Plaza In Miyakojima Hotel

It’s cheap compared with other places, but the cleanliness was really poor. The bathroom smelled so bad it made me nauseous and throw up, and there was obvious dust that hadn’t been cleaned. We found out the hard way that there’s no staff around at night, so good luck if you arrive after they’ve left. Both dryers in the laundry room were broken, with no warning signs. We’d been to seven cities in Japan on this trip, and this was the worst hotel. I won’t return or recommend it.

The price was very good at $40, so I’m not complaining about that. I liked being outside the tourist area, with easy commuting and lots of places to eat nearby. The twin room was okay, but the AC blew straight at one of the beds, so I had to cover up. The mirrors were all set too low, not sure who they were designed for. The tap was awkward too: once I got the water to the right temperature, adjusting the flow changed the temperature.

The room was neat and clean, and the hotel was too. Check-in and check-out are self-service, so we didn’t have much contact with staff, but they left us fresh towels every day. It’s close to the train station. A great hotel.

I spent three nights here with friends in a Japanese-style room with futons. It felt relatively large compared with the usual Japanese room, and could actually fit as many as five people. I’d definitely recommend staying here.
