The water was clear and green, with a salty taste. It wasn't smelly or slimy, though I did notice a faint chlorine smell. I couldn't find any information about whether water is added, circulated, or disinfected. There were lots of local people there, even with the high 800-yen fee.

The outdoor onsen looks amazing when the fuji and tsutsuji are in season. I went a bit too early to see them, though.

The cheerful, friendly staff always make my stays pleasant. I especially recommend the place for solo travelers. I keep coming back when I'm on business trips around Mizusawa and Ichinoseki. Since I'm on the road a lot, relaxing in the hot springs is a real treat. A night's stay with two meals costs under 10,000 yen. Big eaters might find the portions a little small, but they're just right for me when I'm having a drink with dinner 😊.

The wakame seaweed at dinner is what stuck with me most. I heard it's a specialty of Iwate Prefecture, and it was really delicious. When I stayed in October 2010, the place was quite lively, with lots of young baseball players around. Day-trip visitors also came in droves until about 9 p.m., so I'd go a little later for a quiet soak.
