Youroukeikoku Onsenkyo Sagawa Ryokan

Good.

The brown moor spring was quite hot, but it felt really good. The windows are frosted, so you can't see the scenery even if you open them, which may disappoint anyone hoping to admire the mountains while bathing. The building is old, though the inside was clean, with bath towel racks and a water cooler. Dinner and breakfast were both satisfying in quality and amount, and the dishes felt special rather than ordinary. Prices were reasonable, too.

We'd be happy to come back to this inn. The room had two semi-double beds plus a Japanese-style area of about six tatami mats. Outside, a stream ran past the window while nightingales sang, which made it a lovely place to stay. Dinner was so generous we couldn't finish it, and the waitress talked us through every dish. Everything tasted delicious.

I first went to Sagagawa Ryokan on January 10, 2026, just for the day spa. Adults paid 700 yen. The black hot spring, or kuroyu, is common in Chiba Prefecture and is known for its silky feel. It left me feeling refreshed, and I think it's a nice spot for a day visit, though I can't comment on staying overnight. There was one indoor bath and no open-air bath. Rinse-in shampoo, conditioner, and body soap were supplied, and a hair dryer was in the room next to the bath. I returned on February 5, 2026. Repairs were underway in the men's bath, so I was temporarily allowed to use the women's bath. Its tub was a little smaller than the men's, but it had more amenities and other facilities. The black water left everyone's skin feeling smooth.
