Once you're right by the entrance, the hotel is easy enough to find, but from the street it isn't very visible. It's conveniently near the station and restaurants. Check-in was quick, polite, and painless, and the rates were reasonable, with payment upfront. The building's a bit old, and the rooms are somewhat larger, though not in a particularly useful way. They're quiet, but you can hear sounds from the hall. There aren't blackout curtains, so some streetlight gets in. On lower floors at least, the windows open, which is handy if you don't want the air conditioning. The beds are a little soft, but long and wide enough. The shower-bath and toilet are standard, with good water pressure, and the usual plastic-wrapped amenities are supplied. Since it's an older hotel, all rooms are smoking rooms, and there's always a slight smell of smoke. The doors don't lock automatically, and there's no electricity-saving device to switch on the lights. Breakfast comes as a set choice of Western or Japanese food, with a self-service coffee and tea machine.

The location is handy, right across from the Oyama train station entrance. Staff are courteous, professional, and wonderful to deal with. The hotel is clean and well maintained, the beds are great, and breakfast is lovely. The coffee is the best I've had in all my travels around Osaka and Oyama, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, the US, and Europe. Bathrooms feel small for tall, heavy Americans and Europeans, but you can still get everything done. There's occasionally a very slight outdoor sewage smell, something common to businesses in this area.
