Shiretokoserai

It feels like a money-oriented hotel. The windows weren't sealed properly, and I could feel the cold winter wind coming into the room. The manager, Kai**, was unfriendly and too strict about the rules. We were told to book meals in advance, and during a blizzard we were still expected to walk to the restaurant ourselves, even though it wasn't really open. The hotel is about a 20-minute walk from both the bus station and the port, so it's not very close to either.

Meals were a highlight. Breakfast and dinner were much tastier than I expected, and they served different dishes each day. They also included plenty of vegetables in every meal, even though fresh vegetables can be hard to find in this area. The nature guide was friendly and knew a lot. The hotel itself was small, comfortable, and cosy. I'd really like to come back to Rausu, and I already know where I'll stay next time.

I often stay at Shiretoko Serai with clients while guiding photography tours in eastern Hokkaido. It's one of the best places in Rausu town. The rooms are modern, very clean, and comfortable, and I especially love the beds. The food is delicious, fresh, and seasonal, and the staff are friendly and attentive. It's also convenient, just a short walk from the town centre and port area. I highly recommend this lovely little boutique-style hotel.

We were in the area for bird watching and really enjoyed this place. The rooms were warm and comfortable, with everything we needed. Great place.
