Hotel Uni Goten

The uni and other food were good, but the rooms were average and there wasn't much else to it. No onsen, though there is a seaweed bath.

After successfully climbing Mount Rishiri and seeing the island, I'm ready to enjoy sea urchin at Uni Goten. The rooms and baths look great, so my expectations are high. They also have good local sake, which should round things out nicely.

[September 2025] Stay The room's view of Rishiri Fuji and the ocean was the main plus. The large public bath was another, even though it's not a hot spring. But the bath's big window was locked, which took away from the experience. There was plenty of sea urchin at meals, though it wasn't high-end. I had hesitated to book because of all the negative reviews, but curiosity won out. It's a bit far from the port, though the shuttle made that manageable. There's nothing around the place, and for the price, I came away very disappointed.

The owner said they're losing money, but they're still serving sea urchin even though the catch has been poor this year and prices have shot up. That's a real effort. The seafood dishes are excellent, and we finished with a sea urchin bowl.
