Kinugawa Onsen Sanraku

Dinner was a highlight, especially the Kiseki set, which was beautifully made and full of flavor. I also want to single out the glasses-wearing woman who looked after us. She was kind, attentive to every detail, and caring in a way I haven’t experienced in years of traveling in Japan. The room felt a little dated, as you’d expect in a traditional ryokan, but it was spotless and comfortable, with a calm atmosphere that made it easy to relax. The lobby looks out over the river, and it’s only a one-minute walk to the Kinugawa River. Every staff member was warm and professional, and the service was the best I’ve had in Japan. It was a memorable stay, and I’d happily return. Highly recommend Kinugawa Onsen Sanraku.

The staff paid close attention to what we needed, and I appreciated that they changed the menu for me each evening and at breakfast. We spent two nights here. The onsen was huge, beautiful, and clean. I’ll definitely stay again when I come to Nikko.

Dinner and breakfast were unforgettable, both delicious and beautifully presented. The onsen was bigger than I expected, with indoor and outdoor tubs, and felt quiet and simple. Our top-floor room was spectacular, with several spaces done in traditional Japanese style and tatami floors. We were welcomed with tasty matcha and traditional sweets. Outside, the river views and the surrounding nature were lovely, and we even saw a hawk fly over the water. I loved this place. They also run a shuttle to and from the station, even though it’s nearby.

The food was finger-licking good, and the room was really clean with nice views. We came midweek and had a wonderful little vacation. It’s a nice place to spend a couple of days resting.
