Go for a day trip to use the spa and sauna. I wouldn’t pay to stay overnight expecting glamping. There are plenty of free campsites with clean showers and toilets, and the camp "kitchen" here is just a bunch of sinks. Don’t expect to cook unless you bring or rent your own equipment. As overseas visitors with limited luggage, we booked the Jyubako box room expecting a Snowpeak themed, comfortable stay, especially at over $200, and added the spa package for ¥2200 p.p. Instead the room was dusty and felt amateurishly put together, neglected, and unsafe. There was aircon, which I appreciated, but using the kettle meant turning it off so the breaker wouldn’t trip. There was barely any snowpeak equipment, and the Snowpeak chair had a bolt washer come out, so the whole thing fell apart. There were tripping hazards everywhere. The kettle cable was hot after use. The spring mattress had no padding and jingled like a bag of coins when I got on it. It felt more like an air-conditioned homeless shelter box than glamping. Snowpeak HQ was very particular about parking, insisting the car be perpendicular to the room and facing the path. There was a stack of parking instructions in the folder, but other information was only on the website behind a QR code, where many entries were marked "in preparation" and had no information. The bath and spa closed at 9pm and didn’t reopen until 10am. If you expect to use the spa while glamping in the box, you have to check out first, then go to the spa. The website also said there’d be shampoo and soap in the shower, but that must have been mistranslated because there was none. The staff were helpful and friendly, but English wasn’t their strong suit. They had English instruction cards on hand, which would’ve sorted it easily, but one staff member spent over 20 minutes working through the Japanese instructions while I tried not to hurry him so I could get to the spa and restaurant. At one point we were looking up nearby hotels, ready to abandon the glamping stay, but we couldn’t leave because cars aren’t allowed to drive through the campground after 9pm. We packed by 6:30 the next morning and waited quietly until 7, when the rules let us drive to the main building and check out, two hours early. We’d only been able to use the spa once anyway, since it doesn’t open until 10am, and the museum doesn’t open until 11am.

Really nice, relaxed place.
A beautiful, secluded HQ with snowcapped mountains all around.
A must-see for anyone who loves the outdoors.
Snow Peak wants to change how we think about camping.
