Grand Hostel Ldk Odori Park

My son and I had a wonderful stay at LDK Hostel Odori. The neighborhood is lively, with shops and restaurants to discover on foot, and Susukino Station is only a 10-minute walk away. Our room was clean, the staff were helpful, and it’s great value for travelers.

4 stars. The staff were great, and I really liked the pleasant lobby music in the mornings. But the facilities weren’t great, and I don’t understand why this one costs more than the other. The other one is better. Several floors smelled bad. At first I wasn’t sure how to plug in cords, then at 5am my roommate started going through plastic bags and in and out of the room. I complained and the hostel moved me somewhere better for a couple of days, with less street noise. After that I got a roommate who snored louder than Godzilla, with so many pitches and noises. I was lucky to sleep at all. The shower was cramped, a toilet seat was broken, and some rooms didn’t respect quiet hours. The wifi also stopped working at times.

This was by far the worst hostel I’ve stayed in during my travels around Japan. The room smelled awful, as did the shower and toilet. I couldn’t sleep and didn’t even shower because of it. I complained at the front desk. They already knew about the smell and just handed me a spray, which was unacceptable. When I asked for a refund so I could stay somewhere else, they only said “sorry” and refused. Very poor customer service. The rooms are extremely tiny. My suitcase wouldn’t fit, so I had to leave it in a locker. There’s only one shower per floor for 20 or more people, so it may not be available when you need it. Breakfast disappointed too: no café latte, just plain coffee. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

I stayed four nights in a dorm with just four beds and plenty of space. The mattress looked thin but was actually quite comfortable. There are two toilets and one shower for five people, and that setup was fine. The place is clean and well planned, with lovely staff and great facilities, especially the lounge and kitchen. It’s a short walk from the nearest subway station, nearest is the street cart. Highly recommended!
