KOKO HOTEL Sendai Station West

It’s a good spot, close to the station and roughly 100 meters from the Zenjirou restaurant. The double room felt tight, though, and the bed was small enough that I’d say it suits a solo traveler better. Opening a 28-inch suitcase fully can be a challenge. The bathroom has a bathtub, but the toilet had a slight smell.

A few steps from the West station areas, with the station, seafood market, and plenty of restaurants close by. The room was small, but clean and cosy, and the price was affordable. The staff were nice, and the street stayed very quiet at night.

The location near Sendai Station is handy, but the way the staff treated us made the stay feel awful. Nobody greeted us when we came into the lobby or when we left. Their explanations of the facilities and amenities were cold, and we felt like a bother. After we left our luggage before check-in, we came back to find the suitcases sitting in the middle of the lobby. The staff said nothing and didn’t help us with them. Check-out was the worst part. A male staff member just stared at me with a commanding, rude look while asking for my room cards, without saying a word. It felt deeply disrespectful and was the last straw. Those interactions left me feeling rejected, discriminated against, and completely unwelcome. Hospitality depends on how guests are treated, and the staff’s behavior overshadowed everything else. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if poor staff attitude could ruin your trip.

It’s a convenient location, within a 10-minute walk of the Shinkansen station and close to a lively district. The interior feels a little dated, but it’s clean. Service was neither special nor something I could complain about, and it seems like a reasonable fit for a typical Japanese business traveler. Whether I’d recommend it depends on the price. The breakfast plan has a buffet with local dishes. If you want bread in the morning, the selection may disappoint. Cafes and convenience stores are nearby, so you could skip breakfast at the hotel if that matters to you.
