Sakai Guest House Amami Amamioshima

This was my first time staying at this guesthouse, which has been converted from a multi-tenant building. I rented the whole second floor on a business trip and found it comfortable. It was a great price at 3,500 yen for one night. I'll definitely stay again if I get the chance. Thanks for having me for several nights!

I picked this guesthouse based on the price and reviews, and it turned out to be as comfortable as I'd hoped. There was no dedicated parking, so I parked in a nearby park about a five-minute walk away. The three-floor guesthouse put me in a room on the second floor. There were two roomy rooms there, each with two bunk beds, plus a sofa and table. There was more than enough space for two people, and the floor was clean enough to walk around on in socks. A shared shower room, toilet, sink, and refrigerator were also on that floor. There was one other guest in the room next door during my stay, and the walls are thin, so I could hear some noise. If you're staying with others, be careful not to disturb people nearby. The washing machine and dryer are on the first floor. A load costs 200 yen, and the dryer is 100 yen for 30 minutes. I had only a little laundry, so I used the dryer for 30 minutes and hung the rest up indoors. Guests also stay on the first floor, and the machines are available until 9pm. It was a good place to stay: the room was clean, the owner was friendly, and we were comfortable.

I stayed here for three nights while traveling alone in Kuniya. Perhaps because of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was given a private room. After arriving in Amami, I spent two nights in a room with two bunk beds. When I returned from Kakeroma Island, I had a spacious room on the first floor for my last day. As the reviews said, the place was extremely clean. Each floor had a toilet and shower booth, and there was a refrigerator too. They even had amenities you don't usually find, including contact lens solution, lotion, and cleanser. All I needed to bring was a towel. The young owner was very helpful and gave me good recommendations for restaurants and places to see. It's also easy to get around from here, with the sea station for Kakeroma Island, convenience stores, and supermarkets nearby. I'd definitely stay here again when visiting southern Amami. I planned to sleep in on my last day, but the washing machine woke me around 5am. I think there should have been a set time for using it. Apart from that, it was good value. Thank you for the hospitality during my three nights.

The owner noticed that another group was staying on our floor and kindly offered to move us. That let us enjoy two comfortable nights. The place had the typical guesthouse layout and atmosphere, and the room was cleaned with unusual care for this area.
