Bon’s home is one of the best hostels I’ve stayed in. The owner is such a sweet woman and made everything feel comfortable. Meals were simple, comforting Japanese food, and the cozy cafe felt like home. The local potatoes were incredible, some of the best I’ve tried after tasting varieties from different countries. If I get the chance to come back, I’d absolutely stay here again.

Finding vegetarian food in rural Japan was a real challenge for us, so it was great to find a place that was so accommodating. The atmosphere is lovely, and the potato dishes are tasty. There are all sorts of potato-based dishes and desserts worth trying.

Everything is freshly made, and there are a few options where you can have half potato and half rice. They also have a meat-free sauce and no bacon, so it can work for vegetarians. A great spot if you love potatoes.

The potato portions are enough for one person, so order one each. We tried two vegetarian versions, one with a milk-based sauce and one with cheese. I preferred the cheese one, while my husband liked the milk-based one more. We also had carrot juice, coffee, and two desserts. It was tasty.

I tried this restaurant twice while I was in Shiretoko, and everything I had was delicious: pudding, potatoes, and carrot juice. The rum pudding stood out for its soft texture and strong rum flavor. The carrot juice was a lovely color, refreshing, and tasty. I’d like to go back!
