A really nice place, and the Wi-Fi was fast.

We got to enjoy Tsukioka Onsen for a reasonable price. There were three of us sharing a room with two beds and futons. It was a special first-floor room with a garden. We couldn’t use the unit bath, but that was fine since we planned to use the hot spring anyway. The hot spring smelled less sulfurous than at a certain other inn. The open-air bath was a bit cooler, so we could soak for a while. There were plenty of amenities, and we didn’t need to bring anything ourselves. The freshly cooked rice at dinner was delicious. Dinner was mostly set out in advance, with miso soup and dessert brought at the right time. Both meals were served in the dining room. Breakfast seemed to focus mainly on bread, though rice was available too, and the miso soup was delicious. My kids enjoyed the buffet. I’d like to come again.

I came for a day trip to use the hot springs. The water was good, and I was satisfied even though the open-air bath was small. On the way out, though, I noticed the men's outdoor bath faces the road and seemed easy to access from there. I don't mind people seeing me naked, but it still felt a little unsettling. I was traveling alone this time, so it was fine, but I’d have some doubts about the hotel’s policies if I brought my wife.

I stayed at Tsukioka Onsen for about what a business hotel near Shibata Station costs. I found out that day the izakaya and the in-room baths wouldn’t be available, but that was fine for me. The building is old, though it was clean overall. The only thing that bothered me was some dirt or mold on the shower hose in the large bath. The hot springs were very pleasant.
