Matcha fans will find plenty to enjoy here. The matcha products are fresh and delicious, and Kirinomori daifuku is the specialty. The hojicha soft serve is famous too. It’s a lovely rest stop with a restaurant, cafe, teahouse, shop and an onsen, though tattoos aren’t allowed in the onsen. There’s also a beautiful stream to enjoy. It can get crowded, so you may have to wait for the restaurant, cafe or teahouse.
Plenty of parking, and a great place to visit. There’s a restaurant, cafe and onsen, plus a free outdoor footbath.
The local food is amazing and the prices are extremely low. The people there are friendly, the surroundings are pretty, and the nearby onsen is a lovely thing to do before or after lunch. Dinner is only served if you make a reservation, which is one of the few reasons I can’t give it five stars.
It has a big reputation, so I was surprised to find the cafeteria and ice cream closed at 4 pm in the middle of the summer holidays. There wasn’t much to do when I visited. Maybe families with small kids can enjoy swimming in the river.
The area is beautiful, though it was a bit overcrowded when I went.
