The station itself isn’t ideal if you want to watch trains, but there’s a fumikiri right outside where you can easily see them go by. There’s also a FamilyMart nearby worth visiting for limited local train merchandise. It closes around 6 pm.

You can get around by rental bike or car, taxi, bus, or train. The food is in the other building, though.
The staff were warm and helpful, and made getting around on our journey much easier.
There’s nowhere to eat, not even a standing soba place.
The station is easy to navigate, with simple layout and clear platform signs. The waiting room was clean, comfortable, and nicely air-conditioned. But after 6 pm, the area felt very quiet, almost lonely, and there wasn’t much of a tourist-hub feel for a major station. I didn’t see many signs for Shima Spain Village, and the shops and nearby restaurants had few choices. The convenience store also shut early. Fine for passing through, but I wouldn’t choose to spend time here waiting for an express train.
