Hotel 1-2-3 Shimada

Good service and a really clean budget hotel.

They had all kinds of Asian food items available.

Breakfast was a nice part of my stay. It began at 6:30 but was served a little early, which helped since I wanted to get going. There wasn't a huge selection, though I was satisfied with the curry and sweet bread. They had croissants, but bread seemed limited and rice was the only other staple. I was lucky to have the men's public bath to myself. It fits about 4-5 people comfortably. I stayed Saturday night before riding the Oigawa Railway. My smoking room barely smelled of cigarettes, and although the facilities were a bit dated, they were kept up well and felt comfortable. Wi-Fi was available in the room. The TV was small and didn't support YouTube. Check-in was easy because the reservation details were right, so I just had to sign. The automatic lock used a thin card key. I heard bikes are free to borrow, so next time I might take one for a refreshing ride! 🍖

The sunrise and trains passing Shimada Station looked beautiful from my sixth-floor room, and I also liked the mountain view. I had a room with storage space, which came in handy for spreading out my mountain-climbing gear and other things. I'd book that room again. I picked the hotel for the reasonable price and good reviews, staying here for the first time before climbing Mt. Okushizu. It was tidy and very clean, and the staff were attentive. The first-floor public bath let me stretch out, and being able to use it from 6:00 AM left me feeling refreshed. I bought dinner and alcohol at the Every Big Day Shimada store, under ten minutes away by car, since there didn't seem to be a supermarket nearby. The hotel's vending machines also sold alcohol. I like having room to spread out, so I ate in the first-floor breakfast area. There was a trash can, which made cleanup easy. I couldn't find a microwave there at first, so I went back up to the sixth floor and used the one near the elevator, then returned. The next morning I spotted one on the first floor beside the grocery vending machine. A hot-water dispenser downstairs was useful for instant soup, though there was also a kettle in my room. Breakfast seemed to start a little before 6:30. For the price, the buffet of rice, side dishes and salads was good, and I appreciated being able to get more rice. The tea and coffee were tasty too. I selfishly would have given it 150 points if there'd been yogurt. One unusual detail: you insert the card key into the wall for the lights, and taking it out switches off the air conditioner. The room only warms up while you're in it.
