I loved sitting in the outdoor rotenburo, looking out at the mountains and river below. The onsen was kept in great shape, and our spacious Japanese-style room had lovely decor and a view of the river too. A fantastic ryokan.

From the outdoor bath, you get a beautiful look across the river canyon to the mountains. There's also a restaurant and hotel attached to the hot spring.
The food was nice.
We had such a lovely four-night stay. The staff were patient and attentive, even though my wife and I know very little Japanese; Google Translate helped us get by. We also wanted to try the Onsen together, and the private bath at 2000 yen felt very affordable. The room was a little dated but comfortable, so I'd give that part four stars. We had no other complaints. Breakfast and dinner were worth paying extra for, and the food was excellent.
The open-air onsen was a highlight. I could relax and listen to the birds while taking in the view. I booked mainly because I needed somewhere to rest before heading north toward Matsuyama, and wasn't expecting much from a place so out of the way. Given its location and age, though, the room was well kept and the food was more than decent.
