Dormy Inn Premium Shimonoseki Natural Hot Spring

The lounge was one of my favorite parts, with vending machines, comic books, and a selection of free ice cream. I especially enjoyed the ice cream sandwiches. The room was very clean and well maintained, though a bit compact, with just enough space for two carry-on suitcases. There’s a public onsen, but tattoos aren’t allowed. By reception, free hot water and a coffee machine were a nice touch. We arrived around 11:30 pm, just before the midnight check-in cutoff. The staff saw us pull into the parkade and kindly came out to direct us to a nearby lot because the hotel parking was full. Pleasant stay and thoughtful service.

The hotel’s own parking area was small and already full, so I had to use a nearby public garage. It was about a 10-minute walk and nearly twice the price for overnight parking. Even so, the front desk and dining room staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was on the small side, but clean and comfortable. The 10th-floor onsen was amazing, with a great sauna and rotenburo, or outdoor bath. Everything was clean and comfortable.

The room was a bit small, but Shimonoseki station is just one turn away and easy to reach on foot. The staff were great, really friendly, and happy to let me use my basic Japanese to explain that I’d left my key in the room. Breakfast has lots of choices, and the beef stew is incredible. Upstairs there are traditional baths, massage chairs, and a manga library. Free noodles every night were above and beyond, especially for a price similar to smaller hotels in larger cities. The alcoholic vending machines on every other floor were a nice touch.

There isn’t much in the area, though getting to the station is pretty straightforward. The public bath and relaxation room were great extras. My room had complimentary drip coffee and dessert, and was a decent size with several surfaces. The bathroom was unusually spacious rather than prefab, with a shower but no bathtub, since the onsen is available.
