Gran Hotel

I was cycling and arrived at the hotel on November 9 after a really tough day of heavy rain, completely soaked. The staff welcomed me warmly and offered towels so I could dry myself and my bike. They also let me keep the bike in my room as long as it was clean, which was convenient. I had a great stay and would come back. Thanks so much!

The bed was very hard, even by Japanese standards, and the rooms felt shabby and not very clean. I noticed a cobweb near the curtain, marks on the walls, torn tapestry, and a bath with flaking finish. The mirror also looked like it had been wiped in a rush, with fog left on it. It’s fine if you just need a cheap place to sleep, but I wouldn’t recommend it for much beyond that.

We arrived late, so the hotel car park was full and we had to use the paid lot across the road. The fee can be waived if you tell the front desk. The staff were nice and willing to speak English even though it wasn’t their main language. The building is a bit old, and some equipment has noticeable cosmetic damage, but the room was tidy. Breakfast was included and had rice, curry, egg, bread, and fish. There wasn’t much choice, but it was good value. My booking price was attractive, and there were several useful services, including bike rental and a washing machine. The staff seem to work hard, even putting together a handwritten booklet of nearby restaurants. A supermarket and convenience store are just a few minutes away on foot. This hotel suits people travelling by car.

The room was pretty basic, but breakfast was great. The front desk staff were friendly and gave good service at both check-in and check-out. It isn’t close to Shingu station, but it’s near kamikura jinja, which is why I picked the hotel.
