New Grand Hotel Yamagata

I've stayed here several times, including before the renovation. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, and the front desk staff are calm and polite. I do have one request about the doors: there's no cushioning at the bottom, so they slam loudly when shut. Adding cushions could quiet them and make the rooms feel a bit more luxurious. I'd really appreciate that change. Thank you.

There was no closet, so I had plenty of time to open my suitcase by the entrance. The room had USB ports and a separate bathroom and toilet, with a washing area. It had been renovated nicely and felt more comfortable than I expected, a bit like a Daiwa Roynet. I thought the walk looked long, so I took a taxi. There's a Family Mart nearby. They called a taxi for me at 6:30. Thank you very much.

The room was newly renovated and very clean, and I liked having a separate bathroom and toilet. But the amenities were surprisingly lacking, and the place didn't seem very considerate of women. In the twin room there was only one toothbrush, three hairbrushes, and a tube of toothpaste left by the previous guest. I wish they'd checked and replenished the supplies properly. They had men's shaving foam but no lotion or cleanser for women. The large twin had only one small trash can, and none by the sink or in the dressing area, with no tissues there either. Since many hotels let you pick up the amenities you need at reception, I was disappointed by how insufficient these were. The breakfast selection was smaller than I expected; for 1,650 yen to add it on the day, I felt I could have had a tastier Yamagata meal elsewhere. I did like that children's tableware was set out at the entrance. I'd suggest this hotel for men or people who dislike modular baths. I also had a poor impression of the man at reception, and the email reply I received before booking felt very dishonest. I've contacted other hotels before and usually get a standard response thanking me for the inquiry and explaining the details, with the hotel's name and representative. Here, the answer was simply, "This hotel is XX, so we will XX." It was the first time I'd been treated that way. I don't know whether the person replying was from reception, but the response reflects the hotel's quality. The narrow road to the parking lot and the very small lot added to my poor impression. There was a room available near the end of the year, which made me realize what that might mean.

I spent two nights here on a business trip and found the hotel very satisfying. It's a bit of a walk from the station, but the room was roomy, clean, and comfortable. Having an outlet beside the pillow was useful. The TV supported YouTube and Amazon Prime Video, which was handy, though it faced away from the desk and chair. A movable desk would have made things more comfortable. There was a coffee maker near reception, and I appreciated being able to use it freely during opening hours. Breakfast had so many choices and everything looked good, almost more than I could manage as a light eater. Renovation work was going on while I stayed, so I expect the atmosphere to become even more comfortable. I'd gladly return for work or a personal trip.
