After riding 140 km in 31°C weather, I arrived drenched in sweat and looking rough. The staff were very nice, and the room was absolutely fine. I’d booked a smoking room because it was the last cheap room I could find in Sendai, but honestly it smelled better than most smoking rooms I’ve stayed in. Clean sheets and pillows, a comfortable bed, and really cold air conditioning, unlike some upscale hotels with awful central air. For the price, everything was excellent. The bathroom was exceptionally small, even by Japanese standards, so tall people should be aware. The shower mixer seemed faulty and took me a while to get set right, so I took off a star. Otherwise, it was a perfectly usable cheap hotel. Japanese reviews strike again, I’d been a bit nervous after reading them.

I paid a whopping 14k yen for one night, and it wasn’t worth even a penny. My experience was extremely bad, the worst hotel I’ve stayed in so far. The staff let two Japanese guests who arrived after us check in first, possibly because they saw us as foreigners, even though I speak fluent Japanese. They were rude as well. Once inside, we found stains on the walls, used slippers, a not very clean carpet, and towels that looked ten years old. The bathtub was stained, and the shower water was so sharp it stung my body. The soap made me feel itchy, and getting the temperature right took time. There was no drinking water in the room, and the switches and plugs were so far apart that I kept having to guess where things were. At midnight I felt as if bed bugs were biting me.

For the price, it was a decent stay. The location is convenient, the hotel is friendly, and the lobby has free coffee. Breakfast is a buffet for $9.80. The bedding and desk area looked clean, but cleanliness elsewhere could use work. When we arrived, a wall-mounted flashlight was taken apart on the floor. We put it back together to find out what it was, so I didn’t get a picture. There were footprints in the tub and mold on the inside of the shower curtain. The hotel’s age shows. The bed was worn and hard, and my pillow was flat. Another room’s pillow had more life in it, so maybe mine hadn’t been replaced.

The rooms are quite cozy, and the staff were very helpful and professional. It’s close to a subway station, Tohoku University, and an indian restaurant, and the stay is very good value for money.

It’s not a long walk from the bus stop, and everything else was pretty good. Some staff couldn’t speak English well and didn’t seem very knowledgeable about local tourism.
