I stayed for work at Hashiguchi Ryokan, and at 11,000 yen with dinner and breakfast, the food was absolutely amazing. The meal was seafood all the way. Dinner included delicious horse mackerel, black fin, and octopus sashimi, plus fried flying fish, which I'd never seen elsewhere, and a fish hotpot. I was practically bursting by the end. There's no menu, but they have alcohol. I think a medium bottle of beer is around 700 yen and chuhai just over 400 yen. Breakfast was healthy, satisfying, and filling enough to start the day, with delicious grilled fish. My room was a large, 10-tatami Japanese-style room that made me feel like I was back in an imaginary rural area. The air conditioning worked well, and the refrigerator was large, almost too big for one person. The facilities are undeniably a little old, though the toilets are Western-style, the sink area is spacious, and the bath was fine. The smoking area is by the entrance. We were told to park somewhere convenient near the ferry dock. There were crabs at the entrance, and the night sky looked different from the one in Arikawa or Aokata. Everything was great, and it was a ryokan well worth visiting. Thank you!
I stayed here for the first time and parked at the nearby fishing port since there's no parking lot. The sashimi was fresh and tasty, and there was plenty of food. My room had a refrigerator, and though the building is old, it's clean. The rice was awful, especially at dinner. It was soggy enough to make even the otherwise delicious side dishes disappointing. Breakfast rice was a little better. You can't use the shower in the morning, and the restrooms aren't separated by gender.
We had a really pleasant stay, and dinner was magnificent. I enjoyed seeing all the food, though I'm sorry I couldn't finish everything. Thank you very much.
Hashiguchi Ryokan's big draw is the huge, delicious dinner, so arrive hungry. Breakfast is less impressive by comparison, which shows just how good dinner is. The bathroom is like a larger home bathroom, with two sets of faucets and showers and toiletries including shampoo. Wi-Fi was extremely fast, with upload speeds around 200MB. The parking lot is a little way off, but you can pull up right outside the inn to unload your luggage.
The dinner impressed me so much that I went from regretting my choice of inn to being glad I stayed. Wi-Fi was available too. We parked at Wakamatsu Port, very close by. The room was roomy for two, but had a musty smell, which I suppose comes with an old building. When we opened the refrigerator, it was wet inside and we had to clean it before using it.
