Yorkshire Farm

The sheep were the best part, along with the very friendly, adorable shepherd dog. We even got to pet a two-week-old lamb, which was precious. Set beside a flowing river with beautiful mountain views, the farm is lovely to look at from every direction. We stayed before a ski trip, and the owner kindly drove us to and from the resort since getting a taxi would have been nearly impossible. Dinner and breakfast were home-cooked and delicious, and I especially liked the homemade jam. I bought a couple of bottles to take home. The decor feels like its 1988 beginnings. It’s old but full of character, well maintained, and spotlessly clean. The house feels solidly built, and the floor heating makes it especially comfortable.

The sheep are calm and very cute, and the scenery around Yorkshire Farm is beautiful. They provide rubber boots to help protect both the sheep and visitors from disease and mud. There’s also a cute gift shop, where we bought a handmade sheep figurine, a handmade sheep mobile, and a hand-knitted wool hat made from the sheep’s wool. My husband and I had a lovely stay in a clean, quiet room. Our deluxe package included dinner and breakfast, and both were delicious and filling. The host was extremely welcoming and nice, and her English was helpful. We also visited the Chapel on the Water that night. It’s about 30-40 minutes away and was a fun visit. Yorkshire Farm is a great introduction to another part of Hokkaido, and I highly recommend it.

We loved the fun shepherding experience, and the people who run Yorkshire Farm were delightful, helpful, and clearly excited to have us. The quaint farmhouse atmosphere was a lovely break from the busy city. I’d love to return during lamb season and see all the new babies.

The lamb stew and potage soup at dinner were excellent. The best part was the shepherding experience, with the resident sheepdog doing a great job rounding up the cute sheep. It was a fun, relaxing stay at a peaceful farm, just right for a one-night stop. The host was very hospitable and took care of all our needs. The room was small but cozy, so don’t expect a luxurious five-star hotel room.
