April 18-20, 25 I stayed here for a night before playing at Ichinomiya CC in southern Chiba. Weekend green fees near Narita Airport are usually more than twice the weekday rates, and the gap here was a little smaller, so that’s how I ended up coming. It was a decent place overall. Dinner was a kaiseki meal with seafood and meat, and at around 10,000 yen per person I thought it was quite good. I went to the beach at night to look at the stars, which were much clearer than I expected in the pitch dark. Breakfast was clean, and since I visited outside peak season, the stay felt very relaxed. At 200,000 yen per person for one night including breakfast, dinner, yakiniku, and drinks, it seemed like a pretty good choice.

I called hoping to use the hot springs for a day trip, but the phone number was out of service. When I went there, I saw a hotel sign, but nobody was at reception. It felt more like a training center, and seemed as though the hotel wasn’t currently open.

The place has the feel of a training camp facility, though the interior is clean and not bad. The water in the bath was lukewarm, which was disappointing. The bath is on the sixth floor and angled rather than facing straight out to sea, which is farther away than I expected. It’s open until 1 AM (25:00), then again from 5 AM.

I was here for a New Year’s party organized by a house builder. The building looks old but seems reasonably maintained, and nothing was unpleasant. The price is fair, and with lots of tennis courts nearby, it seems geared toward training camps and similar stays. Dinner was a banquet, so I can’t compare it with the regular menu, but it was tasty. Breakfast had a wide range of buffet choices, and I was satisfied. From my fourth-floor room I could just make out the horizon beyond the houses. The big public bath is on the sixth floor with a good sea view, though condensation on the glass made it hard to enjoy.

For 650 yen, this is a great day-trip bath and my favorite among the Shirako Onsen hot springs. It doesn’t offer many extras like an open-air bath, but the view is lovely and the iodine-yellow spring water, both its quality and amount, is impeccable. It warms you through and eases body fatigue. The place is old, but clean and well ventilated, and I like the retro changing rooms. I’m taking off one star because the opening hours change with cleaning and maintenance, though that can’t be helped.
