The separate bath and shower hut was especially charming. We stayed in this lovely, updated traditional Japanese house in the suburb of Shiozoka, about a 15mins drive from central shiozoka. It was tastefully renovated with modern amenities while keeping the feel of its Japanese roots, including tatami and a zen garden courtyard. Highly recommend.

Machihaku 456 is a recently renovated private house turned into private accommodation in a peaceful part of Kanbara, 10 minutes from JR Kambara Station. Check-in is through a tablet by the entrance. The house is roomy enough for up to 4 people and nicely decorated. Parking is beside the house, near the fish shop. The bathroom and toilet are separate, as in a typical Japanese home. The kitchen is fully equipped with utensils, a stove, microwave oven, fridge, induction cooktop, and even a rice cooker. The bedroom has ryokan-style bedding on tatami floors. Since it's at the front of the house, expect some road noise from passing cars. There's no TV, but they provide a Bluetooth speaker, card games, and fast Wi-Fi. We had a really nice time here and liked the atmosphere. If we're in Shizuoka again, we'll definitely stay at Machihaku 456. Highly recommend!

A lovely way to get away from the crowds in Tokyo and Kyoto at this time of year. Kambara train station is only an 11 minute walk away. I'd recommend it to anyone, you won't regret it!

We were there as two couples, and the place was wonderfully calm. It was only about 15 minutes to the ocean and just as long to the mountain hiking. Everything about the stay was great, though the road right outside could get pretty loud with cars and bikes sometimes.
