The booking described a city view, but what I saw was a residential housing estate. I’d also specifically reserved a non-smoking room, yet was assigned to a floor where smoking is allowed. Guests can smoke in their rooms, and the cigarette smell drifts into the corridor and hangs there, so I was exposed to second-hand smoke despite not smoking myself. That’s a concern for both health and comfort. I raised it with the front desk, but they couldn’t move me to another floor, which was extremely unhelpful. The inaccurate listing was especially disappointing since smoking rooms are often cheaper at other hotels. A non-smoking room should come with a non-smoking floor. I hope the hotel describes rooms accurately and honors non-smoking requests in future.

The location was perfect, and the staff kindly helped send my luggage on to my next hotel. I loved my three-night stay and thought it was amazing value. Breakfast wasn’t great, though a few things, like the Tonjiru, made up for it.

The rooms were very comfortable, with plenty of hangers and space for coats, and you can watch YouTube on the TV. There’s a microwave by the elevator on every floor. They offer free bicycle hire, plus a free bar from 15-22 with sparkling drinks, wine, liquor, whiskey and soft drinks. Coffee and tea are available all day, and face care products and other amenities can be picked up at reception. Check-in was very quick and the staff were highly professional. Incredible hotel.

The free hot tea was good, which makes sense in Shizuoka prefecture, famous for tea. I liked the fast internet and the room’s 11am checkout. The man at reception was very nice even though I arrived at midnight. The free coffee machine downstairs is a bit funky: there’s barely room for the espresso cup, and the big cup doesn’t fit, so the espresso overflowed. Still, it tasted better than convenience-store coffee, and it was free, so I can’t complain.
