We had a lovely traditional ryokan stay with my family, and I’d definitely come back. The host welcomed us and showed us to a very traditional room that still had the modern things you need, like AC, a fridge, and a bidet. There are private and public onsen options. The private one is beautiful, and you can open the windows for fresh air. The water is very hot, as others have mentioned, so take care, though I got used to it quickly.

I booked this place for a trip to Tateishi Park. The room was comfortable, with plenty of space, a luxurious mattress, and a big TV. Best of all was the private open-air bath in the room. The location worked well too. I stayed without meals, but there were lots of izakayas within a 5-10 minute walk, so finding dinner was easy.

A quiet little inn tucked away from things. I loved being able to soak in the free-flowing hot spring as often as I wanted, and my skin felt incredibly smooth afterward. The indoor bath has lovely stonework, and with the window open it almost feels like an outdoor bath.

We came for the Lake Suwa Fireworks Festival and were so glad the venue was only a few minutes away on foot. The inn has been operating here for about 60 years. They no longer serve meals, but that wasn’t a problem since the station, restaurants, and convenience stores are all within walking distance. The owner and his son were very hospitable while keeping a comfortable distance. The baths are modest in size, with a relaxing indoor option and an outdoor one. You can drink the outdoor hot spring water too. It had no smell or bitterness and was easy to drink, with paper cups provided. There are both bed rooms and futon rooms, and parking was handy for us coming from far away. We look forward to another stay.

The hot spring was nicely maintained and pleasant, though the water was quite hot. Wi-Fi in our room worked without trouble, and since we didn’t book meals, the breakfast spots and convenience stores within a five-minute walk of the station were useful. I like the retro Showa-era feel of the old building, and the age itself adds charm. But our family trip felt a bit overpriced for the rooms and service. Some things needed repair: the sliding door handles had come off, and sections of the shoji rails were loose enough that the screens fell out. The tourist map was also pre-pandemic and not much help. I can accept that the rooms are old, but with repairs needed and service that didn’t feel attentive, the price seemed high. A nearby business hotel might be fine instead.
