I still think fondly of the spacious room I had to myself before the demolition. Wishing you the best with your new start.

Thank you for welcoming us construction workers and offering us a place to stay while you rebuild from afar during the difficult aftermath of the earthquake. I heard the inn is going to be rebuilt, and I'd like to come back for a private visit once it's ready. The people, the building, and the inn all felt warm and welcoming. Thank you so much. 🙇🙇

A stay with my 1.5-year-old daughter during Golden Week in 2022 showed me how family-friendly this inn can be. The Japanese-style rooms gave her a safe place to play and sleep, and having meals in the room meant we didn’t have to worry about other guests. Bath availability depends on the room, but you can ask in advance for one with a private bath. I’ve stayed at Tanino Ryokan for about 20 days altogether, and whenever I visit Suzu, this is where I stay. It’s an old inn with about 80 years of history, yet the proprietress, young innkeeper, and local staff are attentive, and the place is very clean. Anyone looking for luxury may find it simple, but it suits people who want a satisfying, unhurried stay. The food is another reason I keep coming back. Booking room only would mean missing out on fresh seafood, soup, Noto beef, and seasonal ingredients chosen by the young innkeeper. During a week-long stay, I was surprised by how much the menu varied, and I looked forward to every meal. I think that kind of care is hard for a large inn to offer. Oku-Noto is a lovely place to slow down, and guests can ask about activities too. The young innkeeper teaches diving. Depending on the season, you can also gather wild vegetables and bamboo shoots in the mountains behind the inn, then have them as tempura. It’s a way to enjoy Noto’s nature both by the sea and in the mountains. Many guests are regulars and friendly, so there are hardly any problems between guests. The lobby and bath area are good places to have a pleasant chat. I recommend this inn for all kinds of trips, from family holidays and company gatherings to solo travel.

The food was so good for such a reasonable price, and there was plenty of it. The dishes had a great mix and more than filled me up. It’s a quiet, peaceful spot in a charming old-fashioned inn. I’d love to come back.

There are two adorable cats here, and after they ran from me at first, I managed to pet them during my stay (lol). The landlady was friendly and easy to talk with, which made the weeklong visit enjoyable. I liked the retro atmosphere so much that it felt like a place to shut myself away and write a novel. Even the sound of the houses had a charm to it. The inn has an old feel, but it’s well maintained and I was comfortable for the whole week. There were about three or four parking spots right in front, as far as I could see, though there may be others. Amenities were easy to get. It’s near downtown Suzu, with izakayas, supermarkets, and convenience stores within easy reach. I was very satisfied. I only stayed overnight this time, so I’d like to try the inn’s food next visit.
