Dinner and breakfast were both lovely, with exquisite food and especially attentive service. Our waitress seemed to anticipate what we needed. When she heard we planned to visit the gorges on Sunday, she suggested going very early, before breakfast, to avoid the crowds. It was a brilliant tip, and we saw the sights almost alone. The peaceful, charming place suited our group of four well. We stayed in a two-level 'Maisonette'. Downstairs was a large room split between a sleeping area that could be screened off and a living space with a big Japanese-style table. Upstairs was a room laid out perfectly for two tatami mats.

The open-air bath beside its own garden was a real highlight, and the room and garden were kept in great shape. I've stayed at quite a few ryokan, including one with a Michelin 2 keys rating, and this one exceeded all my expectations. The food was beautifully cooked and seasoned, without being overdone. Our hostess was incredibly sweet, and the thought they put into everything really came through. I'd give it six stars if I could, and can't wait to return!

The room itself wasn't anything special. What makes this Ryokan stand out is the service and specially curated cuisine. Dinner and breakfast were in a private dining room, with a very attentive server. A great experience.

The Takachiho steak is a must try. Megumi-san looked after us as our personal server and was absolutely fantastic. It's near the Takachiho shrine, with a market nearby, and the gorge is a drive away. Lots of stars at night. 👻👹👺

The food was amazing, and the room was beautiful with traditional architecture. The staff were super friendly and helpful throughout a wonderful stay. We walked from here to the lovely gorge to see the waterfall and rock formations.
