For this price, the room was clean, tidy, and spacious. The free drinks from 6 to 9 pm were a nice extra. You could make a highball, have plum wine, or take tequila shots without paying.

There are two Hotel AreaOne locations in the same area, so make sure you head to the right one. The front desk is on the second floor, up a flight of stairs, and the staff were friendly. The room has flower covered wallpaper, which is an unusual touch. It’s a budget hotel: the tip of one chair leg fell off as soon as I moved it. The bathroom is tiny, as you’d expect for the price, and its plastic floor creaks when you stand on it. There’s no wall or bedside switch for the main ceiling light, which you control with a remote on the table. Bottled water isn’t free, but you can buy it at reception for 140 yen.

The staff were really kind and helpful, and I had a comfortable stay close to downtown. Breakfast is served in the room, which is a bit different. The reception is on the second floor, so hauling luggage up the stairs is a hassle. There’s a manga library, but no public bath, and the building is old.
