Kanenosanzun

The owner helped us book dinner and arranged a class where we made copper plates with a highly esteemed local artist. My husband and I spent two nights here and had a fantastic time. The unit was really comfortable and well appointed, with Takaoka’s beautiful copperwork and the owner’s lovely designs. We loved our stay and will come back next time we’re in Japan!

Moto San has put so much thought into making guests feel at home at Kanenosanzun. Even the towels and tea feel carefully chosen. It’s one of the most welcoming and well-designed places I’ve stayed, and I’d come to Takaoka just for this place.

The house is comfortable and spacious, set in a historic, relaxed neighborhood about 15 minutes on foot from Takaoka Station. You can also get a taxi from the station. Motomasa’s luxury tableware and home decor line is part of the experience, making the stay feel distinctive and refined. If you’re here, I highly recommend the copper finishing class with master craftsman Masaharu. He’ll help you chisel your own pattern into a postcard-sized copper plate. You don’t need any experience, and with his guidance you’ll have a beautiful, one-of-a-kind souvenir to take home. You must stay at Kane no Sanzun if you visit Toyama.

Moto San was incredibly kind and helpful. We missed our train on the first night and arrived late, but he called the restaurant to adjust our reservation, offered to pick us up at the station, and drove us back to the house after dinner at 1045pm. We spent two nights here and had an amazing time. The beautifully renovated home keeps the charm and history of a kominka while adding modern comforts. It’s decorated with lovely copper and bronze-ware and elegant glassware designed and made in Takaoka, which you can see at the owner’s nearby showroom. I can’t recommend this place enough!
