The staff were so welcoming and accommodating, and their hospitality was incomparable. The rooms and thermal baths are very well maintained. We asked for traditional Japanese food made completely vegan, and every course was delicious. We had an amazing stay and would love to return. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for vegan traditional food options during your stay.

The meals were a highlight, served in a private dining area with excellent cuisine presented beautifully, real five-star quality. It’s a set menu, so don’t expect to choose dishes. The whole stay felt relaxing, wonderful, and unique. This is a ryokan, so set your expectations accordingly. You sleep on floor bedding in a traditional Japanese room with limited storage and no fancy TV or in-room electronics. What you get instead is a peaceful setting, and you may have your own garden and private onsen. Ours was outdoors and fed by spring water.

The service was spectacular from the time I booked, through all my pre-trip questions, right to the end of my stay. I’m especially grateful to Emily-san. Her warmth, welcoming smile, and attention to detail made everything so easy, an 11 out of 10 for me. The meals were delicious, and the onsen was peaceful, comfortable, and tranquil. This ryokan may not be the cheapest, but it’s definitely good value. I’d gladly stay here again if I return to Takayama.

The room with its own onsen was wonderful, and the staff were so kind. We really enjoyed the traditional dinner and breakfast. It was an awesome stay, and I hope Wellington has a chance to come back someday!
