Hirayu Onsen Okada Ryokan

The onsen was beautiful, well organized, and super clean, just like the rest of the spacious place. Everyone had a kimono to wear for dinner and the onsen. The staff were the kindest I’ve ever met. I HIGHLY recommend staying here.

It was easy to catch the bus to kamikochi from here. The Ryokan has a traditional feel, and having a private onsen in the room made the stay special 😊. The staff were so lovely.

We loved relaxing in the in-room onsen, and the public baths had a lovely mountain setting. The hida beef was delicious, and we even got a photo with the happy monkey babies! The hotel was very clean, the rooms spacious, and the service excellent. Thanks for such an incredible stay.

I was welcomed so warmly by a friendly female staff member when I arrived, though arranging things before check-in had been a bit difficult. The breakfast was simple, which I assume reflects local tastes and traditions. I’d planned this as a stop before Kamikochi, but when my plans changed and I had more time, I was glad to enjoy the stay at a slower pace. The area is quiet, like a small village, and it’s a short distance from Hirayu Onsen, where you can catch the bus to Kamikochi. Parking at the hotel was convenient. My room was spacious, with separate areas in a traditional Japanese style. It felt comfortably in between old and new, and the futon was very warm and cozy. The weather was cool and refreshing, so I didn’t need the air conditioner. The onsen area looked a little older. There was visible dust and cloudy water in the outdoor bath, though the view was very serene. Shampoo, body soap, and other bath essentials were provided. The dressing room was clean, with lockers and a range of lotions and creams. Near the hotel, a lovely little cherry blossom garden still had some sakura in bloom when I visited in May.
