The breakfast and Onsen were both very good, and the hotel thoughtfully offers free evening drinks, including sake tasting. Our room was a good size, cozy, comfortable, and very clean. It’s in a quiet part of Takayama, a little farther from the JR station, but the morning market by the river is still less than a 5 to 10 minute walk away, with a convenience store another 1 to 2 minutes away. There’s limited parking for people driving. The service was top notch, and the stay was great value for the quality. I loved staying here.

The location in old Takayama street is what really made this hotel stand out, and the staff were amazing throughout. June and Anne, who are from my country, helped me in my language and were easy to talk to and honest. The other staff were great too. Not one person gave poor service, and I’d definitely come back to Takayama and stay here again. There were lots of nice extras: staff arranged free reserved parking beside the hotel, there were popsicles in the onsen, and from late afternoon into the night guests could have packaged Hokkaido milk, Asahi beer, sake, tea, espresso drinks, and water. The only water station is in the onsen, though there’s also a glass water tank in the lobby. The hotel’s facilities are fairly limited. The onsen didn’t impress me much, and the shampoo, soap, and conditioner were low quality and gave me allergies. I liked the modern room design, but the split type AC spoiled the feel of the room for me. There’s no body scale, and only two washers and dryers for all the guests, so queues get long. The washer doesn’t add detergent automatically, either. You have to ask reception for a free pod. The dryer vents into the room instead of outside, which makes the laundry room hot and too humid. I didn’t enjoy the Japanese breakfast. The eggs were dry and too salty, and it’s a shame if that’s meant to represent real Japanese cuisine. If you get breakfast, I’d go with the American option, which was much more edible.

The location made it easy to get around on foot, with the main sights nearby, both train and bus stations close, and plenty of restaurants in the area. The spa was calm, clean, and a good place to unwind. Inside, the rooms were spacious, spotless, and had very comfortable beds. The whole hotel feels new, with good facilities and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Staff were friendly, and check-in and check-out were quick and simple. They provide nice quality amenities like traditional flip-flops and pyjamas. In the evening there’s complimentary open bar for a few hours, which was a lovely chance to relax with family and chat with other travellers. I’d definitely recommend it.

The evening free bar was a nice touch, though it only had Asahi beer and sake. It would’ve been good to have the option to buy other alcoholic drinks. The hotel had a great vibe, was clean, and the staff were friendly. Rooms and the Onsen were great too. Breakfast alternates between Japanese and Western.

Right in Takayama’s old town, Hotel Wood Takayama is a modern Japanese-style retreat built around a calm ZEN feel. There’s no TV. Warm wood, simple design, and a peaceful atmosphere made it a lovely place to rest after walking the historic streets. The morning market is only about a five-minute walk away, so it’s easy to start the day among the local bustle.🌹💕🌹
