We found this place through Airbnb, and it was such a gem. The house is more than 150 years old, with updated design and all the amenities we needed. Its location right by Morning Market was great, on a quiet street that's historically important and nationally protected. We picked up groceries and made simple meals on the electric stove, which made for a really cozy stay. I'd recommend it for couples or a small family with a kid.

The location was fantastic, right in historic Takayama with the morning markets and boutique shops all an easy walk away. The beautiful house has a traditional minimalist style and everything we needed. We had a wonderful time and would stay again on our next visit. Communication with Sanae in English was great, and check in was simple, using the iPad and door keypad for self entry. There isn't parking in front of the house, but a reasonable paid parking space is just around the corner and works for 24 hours.

This traditional style accommodation sits right by the preservation area. It was quiet and comfortable, though a little dark.

Having a baby with us, we really appreciated being able to walk to lots of places and return to the inn when it was time for a nap. Our room was roomy and comfortable, and we had a lovely family trip. I’d happily recommend staying here.

We had some freshly baked bread from a nearby bakery, and the earthen-floored entrance room was a nice place to invite a friend from Takayama for a small get-together. The house itself is impressive, with good furniture and a full set of tableware, but it’s also been renovated for comfort. Towels, pajamas, toothbrushes, and other amenities are provided. It sits beside an important cultural property in a traditional building preservation district. The main drawback for me was the dim lighting, probably chosen to create atmosphere.
