It’s a little over an hour by bus from Takayama bus centre, and the hotel is right in front of the bus stop, which was very convenient with our luggage. Staff were great and spoke simple English, so communication was easy. The room was clean and comfortable, and the hot spring was really good. You can use the outdoor private onsen whenever it’s available, though its water seemed colder than the public baths. Dinner and breakfast came with the room. The portions were generous, and the food was great. The Hida beef at dinner was especially juicy and tender. I really enjoyed my time here!

The baths have a lovely green view, and relaxing in the outdoor hot spring was great. There are private spring rooms as well as large shared baths. Dinner and breakfast were both amazing, with delicate flavors in each small ingredient and dish. The meals showed how skilled the chef is. It’s a nice old building and a good place to enjoy a traditional Japanese house and food. My only complaint was cleanliness in our room and the baths. It wasn’t dirty, but some room corners were dusty, and the floors inside and outside the baths felt a little slippery, as if they hadn’t been cleaned in a while. Still, the wonderful meals and the price made up for those things, and I enjoyed my stay very much.

I was lucky to soak outdoors while snow drifted down. It’s a beautiful, old-style Japanese hot spring hotel, and the food looked as good as it tasted.

All the private onsens were available at no extra cost. The traditional Japanese inn was wonderful, and the Japanese mountain food was absolutely first-rate!
