The staff were friendly and treated us like family, and both dinner and breakfast were tasty and generous portions. This traditional, historic Japanese-style ryokan sits in a small, quiet, lovely town. It has private and public onsens. The private one runs a little warm, so anyone wanting hotter water can use the public bath instead. Guests can also visit a nearby soda onsen, which is an unusual experience, though its water is quite cool and could leave you cold in winter. The main challenge for foreign visitors is that the staff don't really speak English, so communicating can be difficult. Even so, this place is wonderful and worth a visit.

The staff were so kind, and I got to enjoy a private outdoor hot spring. A wonderful ryokan, with the real hospitality you'd hope to find in a traditional inn.

I grew up with my grandmother, so the older staff and the way they speak never bothered me. In fact, staying here brought back the feeling of being a child, and I felt very at ease. The food was delicious, and I'd definitely return. The larger public bath isn't especially big, but it's lovely to sit there and watch the river. The private bath is quite small, which makes it nice for a quiet soak. The neighborhood is small and easy to get around. You can visit the carbonated spring next door, though I personally prefer spending time at the ryokan.

They charged the full accommodation fee without telling guests beforehand, even though the women's outdoor bath was closed and couldn't be used. They said it was because the weather was too cold, despite it being a warm spring day with cherry blossoms in full bloom. Meanwhile, the men's outdoor bath was open as usual. That's hard to take seriously, and the whole situation felt extremely unreasonable. If cold weather was really the reason, then Ramune Onsenkan should have closed its outdoor bath too. What a dishonest hot spring inn!
