Hotel Iwakiya

For a work trip, I was put in a very spacious Japanese-style room with 10 tatami mats. It was dim because the lights were off, and the old tatami and sliding doors gave it a slightly creepy feel. The unit bath seemed like a standard business hotel bathroom. I added breakfast on the company account, but the serving was enormous. It tasted average, and I couldn't manage that much food in the morning, so I'd skip it unless you have a big appetite. The price was reasonable, and next time I'd stay without breakfast.

I stayed the night before hiking the Kuju mountain range. This seems to be an old inn, and the whole place felt worn. Service wasn't good: at check-in, nobody explained the facilities, where the baths were, or that the room doors don't lock automatically. I found that unfriendly.

My Japanese-style room was pretty bare, with holes all over the place, which was almost funny. When I asked at the front desk for toilet paper, they didn't seem to understand and just said to wait. LOL. First and last stay at this hotel 😊

I used the hotel for work and won't stay here again. They said I could pay later, but at checkout the staff just thanked me without mentioning payment. After I had checked out, they asked if I'd paid. Terrible service. Were they making fun of me? The man and woman at reception gave no customer service at all. As for the room, there was no outlet by the desk for working on a PC, and I'd have liked one by the bed. It smelled strange, and I wished there'd been an air purifier or humidifier. It was dim and felt scary, with nowhere to put luggage. A coin laundry would have been nice, too.
