Kadoya Re

We ate in the room, and the hot spring bath was a lovely brown color. The food was delicious and featured lots of local ingredients. We upgraded to get Bungo beef teppanyaki and horse sashimi, and the landlady's service was great. The parking lot is directly below the building. We had the room at the very end; it felt a little small for two, but that was fine.

We came as a couple for two nights, hoping to unwind and enjoy the carbonated springs at Nagayu Onsen. The inn is older, but well kept and lovely. The water is cloudy and mild in taste; the source is hot, so you don't notice the carbonation, though it's dissolved in the water. The landlady said they accept only two groups, so we could use only one bath. The men's and women's baths are separate, and a door sign can be turned to “Open” or “In Use” so one can be used as a family bath. Meals came to our room, with more than enough food for an elderly couple, and everything was absolutely delicious. The room was well lit, but it got bright very early, perhaps because of the curtains, and we didn't get enough sleep. The cushions and futon are old? Maybe because they're thin, sitting for a long time became painful, so I wish they'd at least improve the cushions. There are no convenience stores nearby, and even a small refrigerator would be nice.

The meals were tasty and made with local ingredients. Check-in from 2 pm was convenient, and because there aren't many rooms, the private baths weren't something we had to compete for. There's also an open-air bath on the men's side, but it wasn't available during my stay. It was quite shallow and looked like you could only soak in it lying down.

Think of it as going to your family home or grandma's place for a soak and a good meal, and you'll have the right idea. There was plenty of food, and I was satisfied with what was served. If you're very particular about cleanliness or easily bothered by things, this probably isn't the place for you. I was very happy with my stay.
