The room and Wi-Fi were excellent, and breakfast was healthy, simple, and really tasty. We stayed just one night with my wife, though I wish we'd had longer. The owners were incredibly accommodating. I can't recommend the place enough.

I stayed three nights and was grateful for how much Mariko and Kyoshi-san helped me out. Mariko shared great advice on places to eat and things to do, and arranged dinner for one on the night I requested it. She also helped me reserve meals elsewhere for the other evenings. On my last morning, she packed orange slices and cookies since I was leaving before breakfast, and Kyoshi-san drove me to the port. The meals were wonderful, and the bed and breakfast had such a calm, friendly feel. I hope to return. Thank you!

Mariko and Kiyoshi have thought through the details of this place. Before buying the inn, she worked as a wedding planner and he as an engineer, and that care really shows. The room was roomy and comfortable, with a large, well-equipped bathroom. The peaceful feeling starts right at the gate. We liked both the Japanese and Western breakfasts, and Kiyoshi's fresh rolls and bread. He also made the best coffee we had in Japan, after studying brewing with a master in Tokyo. I only wish we'd booked dinner there too. The rooms have air conditioning and Wi-Fi, plus there's an outdoor shower and dip pool. Formerly Sapunaya, the inn reopened under new ownership in April 2014 as Guesthouse Cago in English, or Chiisana Shimayado Cago in Japanese.

The service felt so bad that I came away thinking this was a rip-off hotel. I can't remember if the travel site or the post-booking information said, "We do not provide transportation. Please make your own way," but it struck me as an unnecessary thing to say. When I checked out in light rain, I meant to ask where and when to catch the bus. Instead, they suddenly asked, "You don't need to give me a lift, do you?" and I forgot to ask. Things like that kept happening. Maybe it suits foreign visitors, or people who want to eat at a popular restaurant with a chef who acts as though he's doing them a favor. They seemed to give foreigners special service, perhaps because they feel inferior.
